Munroe Island which is often termed as Manrothuruthu, Munroothurthu, and Munreothuruthu lies silently within the confluence of Kallada River and Ashtamudi Lake covers an area of around13.4 sq. km and streaming the channels of 8 small islands which in turn look to compile the volume of wonders compliments the major crest of the Island.
History
It was during the reign of British who had established their colony within the shore of Kerala had installed their power and to maintain their possession they allotted the post of administrative head and the first who was introduced as a head of administration was Colonel Collin Macaulay and he was successfully followed by Colonel John Munro who is renowned for its administrative prospect.
It was during his reign one of the elder priests visited his residence and spoke out his desire to structure the training institute and residence for newly rehabilitated Christian and Colonel Munroe in his turn agreed with his words and commissioned to project the same. So people to commemorate and to honours his efficient supervision named the Island before him.

Beside that people often come here to witness the world renowned Kallada boat race which is conducted at Karuvathrakadavu- Muthiraparambu nettayam in Munroe Island.
How to Reach
The nearest airport from here is Thiruvananthapuram international airport which is located at a distance of approximately 71 km from the shore of Island.
Nearest railway station to Munroe Island is Kollam railway station which is located at a distance of about 25 km from here and when it comes to its connectivity the site is well linked with other railway station of India.
By road, Kollam junction, is located at a distance of 25 km from the island is the main operating junction and from here you can get ample of buses to reach the site of Munroe. Beside that from here you can look to hire local cab like auto and taxi and what’s more amazing is one can even look to reach the site with the help of boat.
