Peermede- a Hill Station of Spices and Scenic Beauty

Peermede hill station is an exhibition of the nature’s magnificence. The fragrance of spices that has made India well known all over the world can be sniffed when you enter this beautiful hill station of Kerala
. When you visit this place you will be awe-struck by the beauty of this place as you will see the clouds dropping tenderly on the lush green slopes of Peermede. The region is rich with variety of plantations like the coffee, tea, pepper, cardamom and rubber as it is the most fertile part of the Western Ghats.


 This region is also decorated with spectacular waterfalls and wide open grasslands at places. When the wind blows and with it the mist or fog blows up on the hills and as you listen to the humming rhythm of streams of waterfalls and rivers, this gives you a very pleasant feeling and your face will automatically have a sweet smile on it.

The word ‘Peer’ refers to a Muslim saint as the history of the place relates it with the Peer Mohammad. He was close to the then royal family Travancore and it was believed that the saint was the first spice trader of the region. So, the place has taken the name of the Muslim saint. For many years this place was taken to be as the summer retreat by the royals.
The place has very calm and tranquil surrounding as it is tucked away from the usual chaos of the city life.

Temperature:
The chief seasons of this hill station is summer, winter and monsoons as it is with other places. During summers the temperature ranges from 22 degree Celsius to 29 degree Celsius. The monsoon season follows the summer and the place is wet and windy during this time. Winter is cooler as the mercury level falls down to 12 degree Celsius making it a pleasant weather filled with romance all around.

The best time to visit any hill station is during summers as the climate is not to hot neither too chilly during this time. During other seasons also this place can be visited.

Transportation:
By Air- The nearest airport to this hill station is Cochin International Airport, which is 130 km away from Peermede. The other option is Madurai airport.
By Rail- The nearest railway station is at Kottayam, which is 51 km from Peermede. The visitors must reach this place before starting the journey of mountain road-trip to Peermede.
By Road- the place is well connected with cities and towns like Bangalore, Cochin, Thiruvananthapuram, Thekkady and Kumly. These places can be reached by car or bus.

Thrissanku Hills- It is 4 km away from Peermede. The attractive landscapes cool breeze and the spell bounding view of sunset and sunrise makes this place a chief attraction.

Panchalimedu- This place is 10 km away from Kuttikkanam. This place is covered with snow and forms a major attraction among the tourists because of its picturesque location.

Peeru Hills- this place is located at a distance of 4 km from Peermede and it is a favored place for trekkers and picnic lovers due to its scenic location.


There are few other scenic places located in Peermede which makes place a striking place for the visitors.
