Thangassery Light House, a Beautiful Place to Visit in Kollam

Thangassery Light House is one of the major attractions of the state, located at a distance of about 5 km from the main town of Kollam in Kerala.
The light house was structured in the year 1902 and is a height of about 144 feet. In the early years, Thangassery was ruled by different foreign rulers, namely the Portuguese, Dutch and the British. The Thangassery Lighthouse is open from 5.30 am to 7.30 pm in the evening for the visitors and one can climb up the tower to enjoy the picturesque views of the surrounding region.

Thangassery is a pristine beach town placed along the shores of the Arabian Sea in Kollam. Apart from the lighthouse the place has other tourist attractions like the historic churches and the forts, built during the 18th century. These churches are beautifully built structures that exist till date, while the forts that were built by Dutch and the Portuguese are in a stage of ruins at this moment.

The Thangassery Beach located close to the lighthouse, is one of the top attractions of Kollam. The beach that is dotted with swaying palm trees is considered to be one of the most scenic beaches in Kerala. It is very much popular among the tourists as well as the locals as a picnic spot. The beach is best known for its scenic surroundings, thus it is a perfect place to spend your vacation. The beach is not just known for its leisure activities but is also known for the different kinds of adventure activities that it offers to its visitors. Tourists visiting this beach can enjoy a variety of thrilling water activities like scuba diving, parasailing, catamaran riding and even fishing. How to Reach
By Road: The lighthouse is easily accessible through road from the Kollam town, located at a distance of about 5 km. Kollam has a very good network of roads that connects the place with the adjacent states and many other major cities around the country like Bangalore, Mangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad and many more. Public buses as well as luxury buses ply form these places to Kollam at a regular basis. 

By Air: The nearest airport to this light house is in Thiruvananthapuram, located at a distance of about 71 km.


By Rail: The railway station in Kollam is located at a distance of about 5 km from the light house. The railway station connects the place with many other major cities within the country.
