A TRIP TO THE GREEN WAYANAD

Wayanad is a combination of two words Vaayal (paddy) and Naad (land). It is a biologically diversified place located in the Western Ghats of the ‘gods own country’ Kerala.
With an area of 2,134 square km it is among the place which still accommodates its spontaneous natural beauties. This enchanting district in the north eastern part of Kerala was formed in November 1, 1980 cutting out some area from Kozhikode and Kannur districts. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city one can enjoy enchanting holiday experience and rejuvenate themselves with the various floras and faunas that you can see in this place. Positioned at an altitude of 700-2100 meter above sea level wayanad has sub tropical climate with evergreen spice plantation and reverberating paddy fields, it remains as one of the least populated districts of Kerala.



Kalpetta (district headquarter), Sulthan Batheri and Mananthavady are the major places of wayanad and offers a safe and comfortable stay to rely back and explore the fascinating destination of this place . Anyone coming via Kozhikode has to drive in 12 km to reach the wandering place of Kalpetta. Teeming in tea and coffee plantation Kalpetta offers you with moment of joy and facilitated hotel and lodging too. Located at a distance of 22 km is the kanthanpara Waterfall which is a 30 meter waterfall where you can observe admiration in the middle of abundant forest. One can also go Soochippara waterfall which is positioned 23 km away from Kalpetta, covered by a thick evergreen forest and wilderness this waterfall forms a pool which you can dip into to have a relaxing time. You will feel the chilly water soothing your body and mind by dipping in this waterfall at the background of pristine natural beauty.

Hidden away in this land are some of the places which stills retain virginity. There are some tribes untouched by the modern day civilization living in the hidden hills of this place. Standing on the southern tip of the Deccan Plateau its prime brilliance is the splendid beefy terrain of the Western Ghats with rarified ridges covered with thick forests, complicated jungles and abysmal valleys. There are many mountains and rivers to look for in this place like: Chembra Peak standing at an elevation of 2100 meters and Banasura Peak at 2073 meters. The Kabini River and its three tributaries Panamaram, Mananthavady and Kalindy almost drain the most part of this district.

If you drive 14 km from Kalpetta you will reach a renowned pilgrimage center in north Kerala Pulinkunnu church which is a calm and pleasant place to stay. At the entry point of Wayanad is Ladikki which receives the highest rainfall in Kerala. One can go to the Edakkal caves famous for its ancient paintings and carvings. Kalpetta being the center and the capital city of this district you will be easily availed with vehicles to reach the astounding and awe-inspiring places of wayanad. Most of the places in this district is covered by different indistinct type of floras and faunas and plantation of coffee, tea etc.
